Title : A surveyon nutritional status in elderly with diabetes
Abstract:
Introduction:
Malnutrition prevalence is unknownamong elderly patients with diabetes. nutrition therapy is an essential component in the treatment program for diabetics.Malnutrition is a clinical disorder and a common risk factor in older patients with diabetes that may impact their health. This study aimed to assess nutritional status in elderly with diabetes in Babol City, Iran.
Methods & Materials:
This was a cross-sectional study conducted in Babol in which 200 older patients with diabetes were included. malnutrition wasassessed with the Mini Nutritional Assessment (MNA)tool. Patients were followed until discharge. Data analysis was done using descriptive statistics and correlation among variables, analyzed by the Chi Square, T-test, and One Way ANOVA.
Results:
According to the results of this study that 50% of elderly patients were suffering from malnutrition, and in 20% nutritional status was normal, and in 30% wereexposed to malnutrition
Conclusion:
it is possible to identify people at risk for malnutrition. These individuals are more likely to have a decrease in caloric intake that can be easily corrected by nutritional intervention.It is necessary to improve the status of elderly diabetic patients with malnutrition by administering normal nutritional status and special attention.
