Title : Anti-inflammatory effects of traditional iranian herbal compounds saffron, turmeric, garlic, and mint in chronic inflammation reduction

Abstract:

Chronic inflammation is a major factor in the development of various diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, metabolic syndrome, and cardiovascular diseases. This study investigates the anti-inflammatory effects of traditional Iranian herbal compounds—saffron, turmeric, garlic, and mint—in reducing chronic inflammation in humans. In this randomized controlled trial, 120 patients with chronic inflammation (including rheumatoid arthritis and metabolic syndrome) were divided into four groups. Each group received one of the herbal supplements daily for 8 weeks (saffron 1000 mg, turmeric 1500 mg, garlic 1000 mg, and mint 1000 mg). Blood samples were collected before and after the intervention to evaluate inflammatory markers (IL-6, CRP, TNF-α). Results showed significant reductions in inflammatory markers in all intervention groups. Saffron demonstrated the greatest reduction in IL-6 (40% reduction), turmeric in CRP (30% reduction), and garlic in TNF-α (25% reduction). These findings confirm the potential of these traditional Iranian herbal compounds as natural and complementary treatments for chronic inflammation and may have significant impacts on global nutrition and public health practices.
