Title : Seeds containing micronutrients involvement in cognitive and mental health

Abstract:

A healthy diet with seeds included is rich in nutrients, which are important for mental health and brain growth and development. Especially the diet including magnesium, zinc, and omega-3 fatty acids, which play a crucial role as determinants of brain health and mental wellness. For this, seeds may help to enhance brain activity and mental health, like intelligence and problem-solving skills, prevent brain dysfunction and neurodegenerative diseases, and improve cognitive health. Seeds are nutritionally dense, which helps to reduce cholesterol, reduce blood sugar, reduce chances of cardiovascular diseases and cancers, especially breast cancer, and improve mental health. Zinc helps in neurotransmission and signalling nutrients for the brain, and magnesium acts to regulate serotonin, which ultimately impacts mood and stress response. Phenolic compounds and antioxidants present in pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, and flax work to reduce oxidative stress and avoid harm to the brain. Phenyl propionamide present in hemp seeds works as a neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory molecule. Safflower seeds contain different antioxidants and compounds like serotonin, proving their involvement in boosting mental health. Chia seeds are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, particularly alpha-linolenic acids that will convert to docosahexaenoic acid and eicosapentaenoic acid that help in synapse maturation and brain growth, and this will ultimately reduce the chances of cognitive decline in old age. Pumpkin seeds contain magnesium, zinc, iron, omega-3, and omega-6 fatty acids, which help in reducing anxiety and symptoms of depression. Sunflower seeds are a rich source of antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents that help to reduce the possibilities of Alzheimer’s disease and memory loss.

Keywords: Seeds, Magnesium, Zinc, Cognitive Health, Depression.
