Abstract
About this talk
Background: Obesity is a complex public health challenge associated with an increased risk of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and other chronic health conditions. Its development is influenced by dietary patterns, physical inactivity, genetic factors, sleep, and environmental and socioeconomic conditions.
Objective: This paper aims to examine the role of nutrition and sustainable lifestyle interventions in obesity prevention and long-term weight management, with particular emphasis on practical, evidence-based strategies.
Discussion: Balanced nutrition is an important component of effective weight management. Dietary approaches that emphasize vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, and other nutrient-dense foods can support overall health and healthy eating patterns. Regular physical activity, adequate sleep, behavioural support, and consistent daily habits may further contribute to improved metabolic health and long-term weight maintenance. Individualized nutrition guidance is important because dietary needs, health conditions, cultural preferences, and access to nutritious foods vary among individuals. Public health education and supportive food environments can also help address barriers to healthier lifestyles. Weight-management approaches should prioritize overall well-being, sustainability, and reduced weight-related stigma rather than relying on restrictive diets or short-term results.
Conclusion: Obesity prevention and management require a comprehensive approach integrating nutrition, physical activity, behavioural support, and public health initiatives. Sustainable, individualized strategies may help improve long-term health outcomes and reduce the burden of obesity-related diseases.
Keywords: Obesity, weight management, nutritional interventions, lifestyle modification, physical activity, public health.
