Probiotics have emerged as a promising avenue in managing atopic dermatitis (AD), a chronic inflammatory skin condition. Research suggests that certain strains of probiotics can modulate the gut microbiota, potentially alleviating symptoms of AD by reducing inflammation and enhancing immune function. Studies have demonstrated that probiotic supplementation in infants may decrease the risk of developing AD later in life, while in adults, it may help in reducing the severity and frequency of flare-ups. However, the efficacy of probiotics in AD management varies depending on factors such as the specific probiotic strains used, dosage, and individual patient characteristics. Further research is needed to fully understand the mechanisms and optimize the use of probiotics as a complementary approach in AD treatment.
