Food waste management is a critical aspect of nutrition research, as it addresses both environmental sustainability and public health concerns. Globally, around one-third of all food produced is wasted, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions and resource depletion. In addressing this issue, nutrition research focuses on strategies to reduce food waste throughout the supply chain, from production to consumption. This includes implementing better harvesting techniques, improving storage and transportation methods, and promoting consumer education on food storage and meal planning. By minimizing food waste, nutrition researchers aim to ensure that the nutritional value of food is maximized, reducing the strain on natural resources and mitigating the environmental impact of food production while also promoting healthier eating habits.
