Undernutrition

Undernutrition

Undernutrition is a form of malnutrition that occurs when the body does not receive enough nutrients to meet its daily requirements. It can result from inadequate food intake, poor nutrient absorption, or increased nutritional needs due to illness or stress. Undernutrition leads to weight loss, muscle wasting, and a weakened immune system, increasing susceptibility to infections and diseases. In children, undernutrition can cause stunted growth and developmental delays. Addressing undernutrition requires interventions that ensure access to nutrient-dense foods, improve food security, and provide nutrition education, particularly in low-resource settings where undernutrition is most prevalent.
